[image: image.png] Bill Curry reflects: Wednesday night in Chicago, acclaimed football coach and world famous geography teacher Tim Walz took America back in time.It was like a sock hop, the night in high school where you didn’t need to be cool, rent a tux or even have a date. Everybody was invited and could dance, look, act and laugh any way we wanted. At the end of his talk, the coach gathered us in a huddle as if we’d all made varsity and he was sending us in. Walz reminds me of Brian Doyle Murray in Ground Hog Day, the guy who gets the Heimlich maneuver from Phil and later auctions off bachelors for charity. Genial, kind, self effacing, civic minded, the kind of guy who could make Rotary great again. We’re so lucky to have him. I can’t believe our good fortune. Tonight I’m thinking of the Chicago of 1968 with bloodied protesters chanting “The whole world is watching.” We are as united now as we were divided then. The whole world is watching but this time it’s to see if Beyonce and Taylor will show up. Who knows, they just might. Either way, we’ll all be there having the time of our lives. Amazing.
