The all vinyl episode! Hand picked selections from my personal record collection – no CDs, no mp3s, no auto-DJ, just Vinyl LPs. The show kicks off with the funky soul classic, Tramp, by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas. Next is Chevrolet, from blues-roots master, Taj Mahal. Other selections include The Traitor, by Herbie Hancock, Tombo In 7/4 by Airto, B3 Master, John Patton’s B & J (Two Sisters), TNK from 801 LIve, Unauthorized, from Bill Laswell’s Material, UB40 in Dub, and The Headhunters’ If You’ve Got It, You’ll Get It, Medeski Martin and Wood’s Whatever Happened to Gus, and finally a show stopper of chart toppers – Jimmy Smith, Zoot Sims, Kenny Burrell, Clark Terry, BB King, Illinois Jacquet, Roy Haynes, and Joe Newman, all together recorded live at Yankee Stadium in 1972 playing “Ode to Billie Joe” from an album called “Newport In New York – The Jimmy Smith Jam/ Vol. 5. We must do this again.
