Part One:

We speak with Tyler Moran, Director of the Immigration Hub, about the bigger picture of immigration issues. Our country has struggled for years to develop a policy that vindicates our values of welcoming the stranger and treating every person with respect. Pres. Trump has added hateful racist rhetoric to the mix, and has adopted restrictive immigration policies (and closed the door on less narrow programs). Everyone — including those of us born into white middle-class privilege — must come together and reaffirm a more humanistic approach, in order for the American dream to become a reality.

Part Two:

We talk to Joe Enriquez Henry, from the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in Iowa, about what it’s like to be Latinx in America today. We are seeing a sickening rise in discrimination against people of Hispanic origin, ranging from mass murder at an El Paso Walmart to racial profiling/”driving while brown” in Iowa. Latinx people are legitimately frightened for their lives. LULAC is mobilizing the public to speak out to police and municipal officials as well as the federal government, in order to protect brown families too, and put a stop to all unequal treatment.
