We Rethink the Week
Part One:
Ron Abramson, immigration attorney in Manchester, NH, walks us through some of the complexities, misunderstandings and lies about the current immigration debate. We discuss Pres Trump’s visit to El Paso, and how it fits into his longer-term strategy. Also in El Paso, Beto O’Rourke is speaking out against the President’s immigration policies … and considering whether he’ll run for president.
Part Two:
We are joined by Dean Spiliotis, Presidential Scholar and Professor/Dean at Southern New Hampshire University. We discuss the two latest entrants into the race for the Democratic nomination for President: Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren.
We dive into the latter’s theme decrying the huge (and ever-increasing) wealth disparities in the US. The 400 richest Americans own more wealth than 150 million people! As our conversation evolves, we analyze what, if anything, can be done to cure the deleterious effects of capitalism, including how to protect ordinary Americans from overreach by wealthy corporations, which is the purpose of government oversight and regulation.
Finally, we anticipate an election campaign where Donald Trump demonizes Democrats for being “socialist,” and many Democratic candidates explain how their definition of “socialism” should not scare voters away.
