Part One:
We speak with Marshall Allan, investigative reporter for Pro Publica, about one disturbing reason why health care costs continue to skyrocket. In choosing which health insurance plans to offer to their employees, many employers rely on the advice of “independent brokers.” Unfortunately, however, brokers’ recommendations may not be based solely on their objective analysis, but could also be influenced by the many lucrative commissions and bonuses that the insurance industry throws their way. Sometimes amounting to six-figure payments, these gifts have been called a “classic conflict of interest” by some critics.
Part Two:
David Levinthal and Ashley Balcerzak, two reporters for the Center for Public Integrity, discuss some facts we should know about two more candidates for president: Republican/Libertarian/Republican Bill Weld and Independent/Democratic Socialist/Democrat/Independent Bernie Sanders. We learn about Weld’s “love for Mexico” (and what it may mean for his views on Trump’s wall project and declaration of emergency); and Sanders’s stunning campaign war chest – just weeks after announcing his candidacy.
