Part One:
We speak with Ashley Balcerzak, reporter with the Center for Public Integrity, about a number of facts we should know about presidential candidate Cory Booker. We discuss Booker’s attractive features and also some reasons for possible concern.
Part Two:
We chat with David Luneau, member of the NH House of Representatives, about legislation he has introduced to give consumers a “right of repair.” By this he means that anyone who purchases a consumer good must be given enough information and guidance from the manufacturer so that, if the product breaks down, the consumer is able to fix it him/herself or to choose a local shop to repair it. Manufacturers would no longer have a monopoly to force us to pay a lot of money to buy repairs from the company’s own in-house “care center.” We also discuss some of the broader problems that arise when corporations impose conditions that make ordinary people dependent on their help, giving up people’s own autonomy and control over their own lives.
