Part One: our regular Friday check in with Scott Braddock the editor of The Quorum Report, the Voice of Texas, the Dean of the Austin Press Corps
:
Texas is on the verge of a Covid crisis: Houston’s largest hospital’s ICU is 97% full as daily cases surge to record highs and expert predicts ‘herd immunity may be the only way to stop the virus’ Daily Mail
– Coronavirus cases continue to spike, more than 5000 new cases per day now, as local leaders call for masks to be worn in cities like Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas.
– Meantime Gov. Greg Abbott is starting to take a different tone, threatening the possibility of shutting down the state again if cases continue to spike.
– Why is Abbott taking a different tone? One reason: Empower Texans, the right wing dark money group, was caught on tape mocking Abbott’s use of a wheel chair.
– Despite the new position from Abbott, the Chairman of the Texas GOP says masks will not be required at the party’s convention next month in Houston.
– In San Antonio, the sheriff’s department says a top elected leader was assaulted by a customer at a store who disagreed with his order for people to wear masks.
– The State of Texas is pushing ahead with plans to reopen schools even if coronavirus is still with us this fall.
Texas is at a precipice, and people are asked to make a collective sacrifice, but seem unprepared for it.
Part Two: Our bimonthly check in with Bill Curry, progressive commentator, former candidate for Gov.of Connecticut, Advisor to Bill Clinton
topics:
Amid U.S. reckoning on race, Black candidates harness voters’ fervor for change. That change should be to eliminate corruption.
Unfortunately, liberal media does not pay much attention to corruption, especially corporate corruption. After the election of Biden, the voters should insist on real investigations of Barr and Trump’s criminal actions.
