We discuss Joe Biden’s town hall performance yesterday in Concord, NH. True to his history, he eschewed the caution recommended by his staff and, instead, expounded at length on many topics, some of which were clear and concise and others less so, some of which were germane and responsive while others were less so. Would the scripted Joe Biden be a better candidate than the unfiltered but sincere Joe Biden that we saw last night?
Part One:
We chat with Scott Braddock, Editor of the Quorum Report, aka the Voice of Texas, about Gov. Greg Abbott’s personal responsibility for the voter purge that flopped and sank his nominee for Secretary of State. We also discuss the unusual order from the Republican Speaker of the Texas House mandating that Republicans not campaign against incumbent Democrats.
Part Two:
We speak with Trevor Griffey, professor of U.S. History and Labor Studies, about the recent declassification of some disturbing information that the FBI had once hoped would destroy the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Previous reports of FBI surveillance had exposed Dr. King’s consensual extramarital affairs. These new allegations claim that Dr. King sat by and observed another man rape a woman – and he did nothing to stop it.
We ask whether these allegations contain reliable information or, instead, politically-motivated fabrications: the damning allegations were made in handwritten comments, written on top of a partially-completed draft report. The comments were probably written by an FBI deputy director who had previously changed his analysis of King (to a more negative picture) because he needed to keep his job under J. Edgar Hoover.
