On this Mayday of 2019, Arnie begins with a discussion of Medicare for All, and then talks with Bill Curry about the Mueller/Barr report, and discusses greed with religious ethics professor Laura Alexander.
Part 1: Bill Curry has read the Mueller report. The public should be heard on the question of impeachment. ‘Beyond reasonable double’ vs. ‘preponderance of evidence’. There was collusion. What was once illegal may not be. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Presidential lying and usurpation of power. Joe Biden and the Democratic candidates.
Part 2: Dr. Laura Alexander has read the Buddha and Reinhold Niebuhr, and writes for Conversation dot com. “When are you rich enough?”. Does the daughter of wealth really need to go to college? The certainty of death leads to existential anxiety which leads to greed for more wealth, power, and status. This is not a win-win. Calvin Coolidge on patriotism, focus on something larger than one’s own life. Virtuous cycle or vicious cycle. Greed and public health (vaccination?). Greed and climate change. Greed and community.
