We rethink the week with Stephen Pimpare, Professor at the University of New Hampshire and a nationally recognized expert on poverty, homelessness, and U.S. social policy; and Dean Spiliotis, Civic Scholar and Presidential Scholar at Southern New Hampshire University.

DO YOU BELIEVE THE DOCTORS NOW?

We discuss the irony that, after pooh-poohing public health warnings about the need to protect ourselves from the contagious coronavirus, Pres. Trump and VP Pence are surrounded by people who have now tested positive for the disease.  And that’s in a White House which has all the testing and protective equipment that anyone could ask for.  We wonder how they can think it’s safe for the rest of us to stop our self-protection protocols and “return to normal.”

THE DEPARTMENT OF INJUSTICE?

We also talk about the latest Justice Department injustice.  AG William Barr has dropped the federal charges against General Flynn, who had pled guilty to lying to the FBI about Russian interference in the US election in 2016.

WHAT SHOULD JOE BIDEN BE DOING DURING THE PANDEMIC?

How can Biden effectively communicate his positions to the public, demonstrate why people should be very worried about the possibility of reelecting Donald Trump, and why they should be actively working to defeat Trump in November?  The presumptive Democratic nominee should be expanding his base, reaching out to new voters, to people of color, and to prospective voters who have, in the past, chosen to sit out the election.

WILL TRUMP REFUSE TO ACCEPT DEFEAT?

Finally, we worry about the possibility that, even if Trump is defeated in the election, he might refuse to accept the results as legitimate and it may be quite difficult to get him to step aside and relinquish power.
