Part One:
We speak with Jamal Simmons, host of What’s America Thinking on The Hill TV. We express concern for our democracy as Russians and Republicans tamper with the electoral process and suppress voting rights. We look forward to a more inclusive process, one that considers the differing needs of different people.
Part Two:
We discuss politics with Steffen Schmidt, and with David Andersen, both professors of political science at Iowa State. We worry that the Trump administration is — whether intentionally or inadvertently — taking actions that could easily lead to war against Iran, a conflict that would have grave effects also for other Mideast countries and for the world.
We talk about ways in which Trump’s trade wars with China (and other countries) could result in serious harm to many American workers, farmers and consumers. Finally, we express concern about the statements by Republican leaders that Congress will probably not enact any legislation to protect our election system from being undermined by hacking, manipulation, voter suppression, or other anti-democratic actions.
