We rebroadcast two interviews that were recorded previously.
Part One:
We talk with Jason Miller, professor at North Carolina State University, about the poetry, writings and philosophy of Langston Hughes, and his influence on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Not only did Dr. King learn a great deal from Hughes but the two also worked together to lead our country out of the darkness of racial (and other) discrimination and into the light of compassion, brotherhood/sisterhood, love and non-violence.
Part Two:
We speak with Jeff Rea, the CEO of South Bend, IN’s Chamber of Commerce, about his experience working closely with Mayor Pete Buttigieg, long before Mayor Pete announced his candidacy for President of the United States. Rea is a Republican and a businessperson, yet he had nothing but good things to say about Mayor Pete’s leadership.
In Rea’s view, The Mayor has demonstrated what our democratic values (small “d”) truly mean: he listens to all people, regardless of political party or economic class; he learns about their concerns, goals, and points of view; he seeks out common ground on as many issues as possible; and he works cooperatively to forge compromises or alternative solutions, focusing on what is best for the people who live in their city rather than what is the best way to advance his own personal interests (electoral or otherwise).
