Part One: Our weekly update from the Lone Star state with Scott Braddock, editor of the Quorum Report. Topics include: Kavanaugh, Texas polls, Democrat loses senate seat held by Democrats for 50 years, Ted Cruz, Beto, Empower Texas, Texas voter turnout, and more.
Part Two: NH State Representative Renny Cushing and Nancy West, founder and editor of InDepthNH.org with an update on the efforts to reform the psych unit at the NH State Men’s Prison. NH does not have a secure mental health hospital. For the last 30 years, people with mental illness can be civilly committed to the secure psychiatric unit (SPU) which is part of the prison. People who have committed no crimes are locked up behind bars. Representative Cushing has been trying to pass reform bills for years, and is now starting to get some traction, thanks to the reporting done by Nancy West, and the former patients and staff who have come forward to tell their stories.
